Oscoda Airport Maintenance Hangar
Clear Span with Piggy-Back Frames
Built to service and maintain 747 airliners, this jet center covers 1.82 acres in the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport in Oscoda, Michigan. It features one 7.5 ton underhung crane and a partial mezzanine. Its 260’ clear span includes an additional 23’ on each side to accommodate the sliding leaf hangar doors. Piggy-back post and beam frames add additional support for the 244’ x 58’ doors.
Bringing an additional 150-200 jobs to the Oscoda area, this hangar is just the beginning of the growth expected within its 5,000 acres, which was built on a portion of the decommissioned Wurtsmith Air Force Base that housed nuclear armed bombers during the Cold War.
